After so many years, it's hard to pick out favourite images by anything other than very arbitrary and often inconsistent criteria. So this set is simply pictures that have stayed with me over the years and that still resonate in one way or another. They may not be characteristic of my work now but they reflect stages of development that have led to it.
One important stage has been the appearance of digital cameras, computers and software. Digital has allowed me to return to photography in a depth that I thought had passed with the end of my student days. That's not to say that I regard film as just an interesting anachronism: there's something magical about the arcane processes and chemistries that digital just doesn't have. Accordingly, I've included a number of older, film-derived images: some are technically rough round the edges: some have been reconstructed from scans of prints but, for all that, they're important to me, not just for sentimental reasons but as a testament to the process of learning to see and present what one sees in a way that is faithful to the subject.
