Most of the images that you’ll find here are grouped into galleries either by subject, time or location: each gallery features a slideshow that plays automatically (this one is just a selection of favourite images). You can select a gallery from a drop down menu under the “Images” link above. The “Public Domain” gallery is held separately on a Pogoplug server and is designed for clients and friends to view collections of images outside the context of this website. Click to this section for access instructions. No special software is needed to access this or any other part of the site – just your Flash-enabled web browser. Apologies to those of you using iPads or who don’t use Flash: until I can redesign the site, the slideshows won’t work for you!
The images have been taken in a range of locations around the world, mainly using Nikon digital cameras (D70, D200 and D700) fitted with a range of Nikkor zoom and fixed prime lenses. Almost all my equipment was supplied by the best and most civilized camera shop in the world, Grays of Westminster (and they don’t pay me to say so – I just think they’re great!). Lenses used include the following: 28mm/f2.8, 50mm/f1.8, 105mm/f2.0, 180mm/f2.8 and several telephoto zooms. You’ll also find the occasional film-based image: these were mainly taken with Mamiya C330 and Minolta D9000 cameras using Kodak Tri-X or Ektacolor Gold films and have been digitised using an Epson Perfection 4180 scanner.
Post processing often uses DxO Optics software for lens correction but the main workflow component is Adobe Lightroom running on a range of Macintosh computers. Panoramic images are assembled using either Stitcher Express or Hugin and HDR images are created with Photomatix Pro and I’ve also made occasional use of various versions of Adobe Photoshop and DxO Film Pack. Prints are made on an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 using either Epson or Lyson inks and papers. with colour control by ColorPlus.
The website uses the Atahualpa theme from BytesforAll running under Wordpress. Slideshows are created using NextGen Gallery with JW Image Rotator plugins.
All my images can be bought as high quality inkjet prints, made to order. If you’re interested in buying prints or commissioning photographs, please click here to download my current rate card (in .pdf format).
